TACTICAL BRIEF

WARDOGS Closed Beta

Review the completed WARDOGS closed-beta window, its two access routes and the Supporter Pack restriction.

01

Has the Beta Ended, and What Did Access Include?

The WARDOGS Closed Beta ran from the 21st–23rd August.

Pre-ordering provided guaranteed beta access, while a smaller number of players could be selected through Steam's native Playtest signup process.

Pre-ordering was the route offered for a guaranteed invitation to the Closed Beta. This arrangement was intended to give direct access to players who most wanted it without opening the beta to everyone, while also helping the team predict launch-day player numbers and server requirements more accurately.

A second route existed through Steam’s native Playtest signup process, but only a small number of players could be admitted randomly through that path. The two methods were therefore different: the pre-order route provided guaranteed beta access, while the Steam Playtest route offered limited random selection.

The access limits were connected to preparation for launch stability. Keeping the Closed Beta from operating like an unrestricted open beta allowed the team to estimate expected launch numbers and server needs. That explanation applies to the beta-access design and does not convert the historical beta window into continuing access.

What Did Beta Access Include?

Were Supporter Pack items available in the closed beta?
Supporter Pack items aren’t available in the Closed Beta; they unlock at Early Access launch.

Yes. Pre-ordering was designed to provide a guaranteed invite directly to the player. It differed from a fully open beta and allowed the team to anticipate launch-day numbers and server requirements while controlling how many people entered the test.

A small number of players could be chosen randomly through Steam’s native Playtest signup process. That route was limited and random, unlike the guaranteed invitation attached to pre-ordering for the Closed Beta.

No. The Closed Beta had its own August 21–23 window, and Supporter Pack items were withheld from that beta until the Early Access launch. Those rules distinguish the beta session and its content limits from the later Early Access milestone.
